In a testament to swift action and bravery, Volusia County deputies were pivotal in saving the life of an unconscious woman trapped inside a burning home in DeLand. As WESH reported, the incident occurred on Palmetto Avenue on Saturday, where Deputy Austin Graham located the unresponsive victim and extracted her from the imminent peril posed by the flames and smoke.
The deputies who arrived on scene undertook immediate lifesaving actions, initiating rescue breathing techniques that sustained the woman until she could be entrusted to the care of medical professionals though the odds were stacked against her, she was later reported to be in stable condition with a hopeful prognosis for full recovery. Deputy Graham, who faced the dangerous environment head-on, required treatment for smoke inhalation that he sustained during the courageous rescue, according to WFTV.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office stated that the fire appeared to have started accidentally in the kitchen, with no signs suggesting nefarious origins. The house on Palmetto Avenue, now charred and silent, stands as a reminder of the impermanence of safety and the necessity of emergency response vigilance.
Meanwhile, the woman, whose life was spared through the decisive intervention of Deputy Graham, continues her recovery as she was taken in serious condition but is expected to make a full recovery.
