An early morning shooting inside a west Houston bedroom left a woman with two gunshot wounds as she slept on Saturday, according to police. Officers say she was hit in the leg and ankle, then rushed to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. After a brief on-scene investigation, Houston police took her fiancé into custody. Authorities have not released any names or said why the gunfire erupted.
Police: Fiancé Taken Into Custody at the Scene
Officers with the Houston Police Department were called to the 12000 block of Brant Rock at about 3:30 a.m., where they found the woman still in her bed, ABC13 Houston reports. Investigators told the station the suspect is engaged to the victim and that he was detained at the scene after a short inquiry.
Where the Overnight Shooting Unfolded
The gunfire was reported in the 12000 block of Brant Rock Drive in west Houston, in the Briar Forest/Ashford area near Westpark Tollway. The area appears on the City of Houston active incidents page, and nearby multifamily properties such as the Brant Rock Apartments list addresses in the same block.
Context: Intimate-Partner Violence and Firearms
Police have not said whether this case will be handled as a domestic-violence investigation, but shootings involving intimate partners remain a persistent concern across Texas. The Texas Council on Family Violence documents that a large share of intimate-partner homicides involve firearms and highlights resources and safety planning for survivors and those worried about escalating behavior at home.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
A motive has not been released, and HPD has not publicly identified either the woman or her fiancé, nor said whether any charges have been filed, according to ABC13 Houston. Police say the investigation is ongoing and had not provided additional details as of late Saturday.
