A woman identified by police as Aniyah Moore is in custody after what officers describe as a wild chase through McKees Rocks that ended on Pittsburgh’s North Side last night. McKees Rocks police say the pursuit started after a disturbance on Washington Street and that Moore was armed. The vehicle eventually crashed into a front yard in Brighton Heights, and officers say Moore ran from the wreck before she was caught with help from Pittsburgh police.
How the Pursuit Unfolded
According to WTAE, McKees Rocks officers found Moore inside a vehicle at the corner of Washington Street. They say she refused to speak with them and tried to speed off when officers moved in. Police report that officers boxed the car in, and that Moore allegedly reversed into a patrol vehicle several times and then hit a McKees Rocks K-9 unit head-on, nearly running over the K-9 handler and striking his hand and arm before he jumped out of the way.
Investigators told WTAE that Moore had a 40-caliber, illegally modified, fully automatic Glock and that she is not allowed to own a firearm.
Crash Scene and Hospital Evaluation
Channel 11 reported that the crash happened in the 3400 block of Brighton Road in Brighton Heights and that a Channel 11 photographer saw a Dodge Charger down in the brush at the scene. As reported by WPXI, officers say Moore was tased and taken to a hospital for evaluation after she ran from the crash and was captured, and the vehicle was later towed out of the yard.
Legal Consequences
Because police say Moore is prohibited from owning firearms, investigators could pursue state firearms charges under 18 Pa.C.S. 7 6105, the statute that bars certain people from possessing guns. That law makes possession by someone under that disability a criminal offense, and Pennsylvania sentencing rules note that second-degree felonies carry maximum prison terms set out in statute, as detailed in 18 Pa.C.S. 7 1103. Prosecutors could also add charges related to fleeing or eluding, aggravated assault on an officer or vehicle, and other counts depending on how investigators decide to file the case.
What Happens Next
Police had not released a full list of charges as of early Saturday. WTAE reports that investigators identified the suspect and recovered the weapon, and WPXI said it contacted the McKees Rocks Police Department for additional information. The case will be handled by local investigators and the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact police.
