Protests continued across southeast Wisconsin on Saturday in response to recent ICE operations and the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. In Brookfield, nearly 1,000 people gathered with Brookfield Resist to demonstrate. In Milwaukee, hundreds of cyclists participated in the Riverwest24 lap to honor Pretti, an intensive care nurse, and raise awareness of ICE’s actions, according to FOX6 Now.
This marked the third rally of the week, with participants calling for the prosecution of the federal agents involved in the Minneapolis shooting, both of whom are on administrative leave, according to WISN. Protesters emphasized the need for investigation and accountability.
Support extended statewide and nationally through a Day of Action against ICE. Some businesses, including Monona Bakery and Eatery, Strange Town restaurant, and Wonderstate Coffee, closed or donated profits to immigrant rights causes, as reported by Wisconsin Public Radio. In Milwaukee, additional demonstrations included a rally at Cathedral Square Park and a student walkout from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to the state Capitol.
