After a month on the sidelines, Dr. Alice Swift is back at the helm of Abington Senior High School. She returned to her principal post on March 18 following an investigation into social media posts that led to her administrative leave in February. District officials say the review has wrapped and that they are now focused on addressing harm and rebuilding trust inside the high school community.
District says review is complete
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Fecher told families that investigators have finished their work and thanked the community for its patience during the process. The district told NBC10 that the social media posts included an antisemitic stereotype and said it will partner with the Anti-Defamation League to provide training for Dr. Swift, students and staff.
How the leave unfolded
The school placed Dr. Swift on administrative leave in mid-February while officials looked into allegations tied to her social media activity, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. During that stretch, Assistant Principal Ronald Brison stepped in to lead the high school, the district said, according to Patch.
Swift's message to families
In a letter to families, Dr. Swift said the social media content at the center of the investigation did not reflect who she is or what she stands for. "This content does not represent me, my values," she wrote, and she accepted responsibility for failing to keep proper safeguards on her social media account, according to NBC10 Philadelphia. She also acknowledged the distress the posts caused and pledged to work on restoring a welcoming environment at the school.
ADL involvement and next steps
The Anti-Defamation League has been pulled into the response. 6abc Action News reported that ADL Philadelphia Senior Regional Director Andrew Goretsky said, "We'll reach out to the school district like we do with any report that comes into us with potential issues." District leaders say ADL training will be built into a broader plan that aims to support students and staff and help repair trust on campus.
Community reaction and what to watch
Reactions in Abington have been far from uniform. Some residents and parents publicly backed Swift and her leadership record, while others pushed for more transparency and accountability around the investigation and its outcome, Patch reported. Families will now be watching how quickly the district rolls out ADL training and what additional updates come from the superintendent or school board as Abington Senior High moves through the spring term with its principal back in place.
