An evening golf cart ride in Aubrey’s fast-growing Silverado area ended in tragedy last Saturday, when a single-vehicle crash on a sidewalk at Frontier Parkway and McNatt Road left the driver fatally injured, according to police.
Aubrey police say the golf cart was the only vehicle involved and the driver was the sole occupant. The cart crashed along the sidewalk, and the driver was ejected. Officers and Aubrey Fire Department medics tried life-saving measures at the scene before the man was transported to Medical Center Denton, where he was pronounced dead before arrival, police said.
The department is withholding the driver’s name until relatives can be notified. A preliminary investigation indicates alcohol may have been a factor, according to police.
In a public post on Facebook, the Aubrey Police Department described the incident as a single-vehicle golf cart collision with the driver ejected and reiterated that officers responded to the scene on Saturday. Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or has additional information to contact the department at [email protected].
Crash Happened on Sidewalk in Growing Silverado Area
Police say the crash occurred on the sidewalk at Frontier Parkway and McNatt Road, in Aubrey’s rapidly expanding Silverado community. That detail is not just a footnote. Under city rules, golf carts are not allowed on public sidewalks at all.
Aubrey’s municipal code lays out where and how golf carts can be operated on city streets, including specific requirements for lights, mirrors and license plates. It also clearly spells out that carts cannot be driven on sidewalks and details the conditions under which carts may be legally used. Those rules are listed in the City of Aubrey code.
Why Golf Cart Crashes Can Turn Serious Fast
Even when they are not moving very fast, golf carts and similar under-speed or off-highway vehicles can be unforgiving in a crash. Safety reviews by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission have found that overturns and ejections show up again and again in deadly incidents, and that head and neck injuries make up a big share of emergency-room diagnoses tied to these vehicles.
Transportation safety researchers likewise caution that golf carts simply do not offer much protection in a collision. They lack the structural shielding of passenger cars, and riders are more exposed when something goes wrong. Materials from the Transportation Research Board highlight those same risks.
Investigation Continues, No Charges Announced
Aubrey police say the investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing and that no criminal charges have been announced at this time. The driver’s name will remain confidential until family members are notified.
Authorities are again asking anyone with information about the golf cart crash at Frontier Parkway and McNatt Road to reach out to the department via [email protected]. The Aubrey Police Department says additional details will be released as they become available.
