Wider context
The stabbing comes as safety concerns at Bronx schools have already been running high. Similar incidents have led to stepped-up security at other campuses in the borough. After a cafeteria stabbing at Hostos-Lincoln Academy, the Department of Education said it would add bag scanners and metal detectors at that school, as reported by News 12 The Bronx.
Investigators are still working to piece together what happened inside P.S./I.S. 218 on Monday. As of Monday afternoon, authorities had not released any information about a suspect or a possible motive.
