What started as a war of words inside a Family Dollar on South U.S. 441 in Apopka reportedly spilled into the street and escalated into gunfire, with a bullet tearing through both the rear and front windshields of a vehicle. Police say no one was hurt, but the close call has become the latest example of how fast tempers can flare behind the wheel.
According to the Apopka Police Department, the suspect followed the victim in a separate car after the argument at the store, then opened fire, sending a round through the cab of the other vehicle. The department later shared photos showing the damage from the bullet.
As reported by ClickOrlando, investigators said detectives and patrol officers "followed up on leads, conducted surveillance, and gathered critical evidence" before arresting a suspect in the case. The department added that images taken from the scene show where the bullet entered and exited the vehicle. "While we are grateful that this incident did not result in any injuries, this type of reckless and violent behavior is completely unacceptable; disputes should never escalate to gun violence," the department wrote, according to the outlet.
Road-rage shootings are rising
Beyond Apopka, highway confrontations have increasingly turned into shooting scenes. A 2024 analysis by The Trace found that in 2023, someone was shot in a road-rage incident about every 18 hours nationwide. Gun-violence prevention advocates, including Everytown, have pointed to rising numbers and warned that easier access to firearms may make these confrontations even more dangerous.

Central Florida has already seen how deadly a roadside argument can become. An Orlando road-rage shooting in 2024 ended in a second-degree murder conviction in 2025, highlighting how a brief clash in traffic can carry life-altering consequences, according to WFTV. The verdict and sentence underscored the serious criminal penalties that can follow when drivers turn to guns.
Apopka police say the investigation into the latest shooting remains active and that detectives are working to hold everyone involved accountable, according to the department statement cited by ClickOrlando. Local outlets report they plan to update the public as additional details are released.
