A 42-year-old man allegedly slashed his mother’s home-care attendant inside a Bushwick senior residence on Monday, then went to the roof of the building and jumped to his death, according to police. The caretaker suffered slash wounds and was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. Authorities said the man was pronounced dead at the scene as detectives work to lock in a fuller timeline of what happened.
According to the New York Post, the violence unfolded inside Linden Grove Senior Residences on Linden Street near Wilson Avenue. The 42-year-old allegedly slashed a 53-year-old home-care attendant in the head and right arm, then went up to the roof of the 13-story building and jumped. The Post reports that sources say the outburst was fueled by the son’s anger over how he believed his mother was being treated, and that his name was being withheld pending family notification.
Where it happened
According to the development’s project site, Linden Grove Senior Residences is a newly built 13-story affordable senior housing complex at 223 Linden Street, with roughly 150 units and rooftop amenities. The building sits between Linden Street and Wilson Avenue in central Bushwick, part of a recent wave of senior housing projects in northeast Brooklyn.
Police and sources told the New York Post that the attendant, identified by sources as a 53-year-old woman, was transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition. Investigators said the 42-year-old man’s injuries were consistent with a fall from an elevated position and that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation under way
Details remain limited as detectives canvass the building and interview residents and staff about what led up to the confrontation inside the unit. Officials have not released a detailed public timeline of the events, and the case remains under active investigation.
