Months after 78-year-old Charles William "Bill" McClure was found dead in his Center home, state and local officials are putting up cash in hopes of finally getting answers.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is now leading the probe into McClure's December 2025 killing, which authorities say first came to light after contractors at his property sounded the alarm. The new reward comes after an extended stretch in which investigators released few public updates about the case.

How investigators say the case unfolded

According to investigators, McClure was last seen on Dec. 19 and was found four days later, on Dec. 23, inside his home after construction workers building a garage reported they had not seen or spoken with him for several days, as reported by The Colorado Springs Gazette. His body was discovered in the kitchen area, and his death was initially labeled suspicious while autopsy and toxicology tests were pending.

Center police requested help from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, which agreed to take the lead and coordinate with local partners as the case moved forward.

Reward announced; tips being collected

On March 30, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Saguache County Sheriff's Office, and the Saguache County Board of Commissioners jointly announced a $2,000 reward for information in the killing and said that Crime Stoppers and CBI would handle incoming tips, according to 9News.

Anyone who provides information that helps lead to an arrest may be eligible for up to $2,000. Tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 719-589-4111. "We are committed to finding justice for the victim and his family," CBI Director Armando Saldate said in a statement, according to the outlet.

Family response and local context

In the days after McClure's body was found, his daughter took to social media, urging anyone with information to reach out to law enforcement, according to reporting by Alamosa Citizen.

The Citizen noted that McClure was a long-time Center resident and a former town trustee. Local reporting also pointed out that his removal from the board in 2024 followed a dispute with town officials, a political dust-up that residents still remember. His death has reverberated through the small community.

What investigators say will come next

Authorities have not identified any suspects and say the investigation remains active. They are again asking anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to contact Crime Stoppers or the CBI.

Per the release reported by 9News, callers may be eligible for the reward, and tips will be handled confidentially. Officials say they plan to release additional information when it is appropriate as the investigation continues.
