City Brewing is quietly turning New Stanton into a serious beer logistics hub, expanding its footprint at the RIDC Westmoreland Innovation Center to add more warehouse and distribution muscle at the former Sony/Volkswagen campus. The additional space pads the contract brewer’s regional logistics network as it scales co-packing and distribution tied to its East Coast operations. The company already runs brewing and packaging out of its Latrobe facility and plans to use the New Stanton site primarily as warehousing and distribution support for that plant.
Pittsburgh Business Times first reported the latest expansion, in coverage by reporter Tim Schooley, laying out the basics of the new deal and placing it squarely within RIDC’s Westmoreland campus near New Stanton.
About the Westmoreland campus
The RIDC Westmoreland Innovation Center sits just off the New Stanton Turnpike interchange and is built for industrial tenants that need room to breathe. It offers large, contiguous warehouse bays, heavy-power utility capacity, and direct rail connections that appeal to manufacturers and distributors that move serious volume. Commercial property listings put the complex at roughly 2.8 million square feet, which makes it one of the region’s largest single industrial blocks. Those site details are reflected in public property listings for the campus.
A regional brewing footprint
City Brewing operates as a national contract brewer, with plants in La Crosse, Irwindale, Memphis and Latrobe. The company bought the Latrobe brewery, the old Rolling Rock plant, in 2006. Since then, the Latrobe site has brewed a range of brands under contract, including Iron City in some years. That setup helps explain why pairing nearby warehouse capacity at New Stanton with brewing and packaging in Latrobe is such a logical move from a logistics standpoint.
This isn't the company's first expansion at RIDC
RIDC’s past announcements show that City Brewing first leased space at the Westmoreland campus in early 2022. The company expanded again in 2023, when the deal added roughly 111,500 square feet to its existing footprint and extended the lease term. According to those earlier RIDC press releases, the prior expansions were expected to support new positions as warehousing and distribution activity ramped up on site.
Why the New Stanton site matters
The campus combines highway access, truck docks, and rail connections, which makes it a practical place to stage high-volume packaging and distribution. That is exactly the sort of setup a contract brewer needs to reliably serve regional grocery and retail customers. Tenant announcements, including a recent lease renewal by electronics manufacturer Intervala, highlight how the facility has become home to a mix of advanced manufacturers and logistics operators.
Pittsburgh Business Times reported the latest City Brewing expansion, and RIDC’s public releases and property listings provide the historical and real estate context for the company’s growth at the New Stanton campus. Additional filings or direct company comments will be needed to pin down the exact square footage and staffing impacts of the newest lease.
