A quiet stretch of Manor Street in the Cloverleaf area turned deadly before dawn Sunday when a man in his late 40s to early 50s was struck and killed while pushing a cart along the roadway. Deputies were called to the 500 block of Manor Street in east Harris County around 3:16 a.m., and emergency crews pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. Witnesses told investigators a white vehicle hit the man, carried him about 50 feet from the point of impact, then took off. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office says the crash is under active investigation.

Deputies Searching For White Sedan

As reported by Click2Houston, HCSO Lt. Roosevelt Berry said deputies are searching for a white vehicle, possibly a sedan, in connection with the hit-and-run. Witnesses told investigators the man had been walking southbound on Manor Street while pushing a cart when he was struck. Responding units found him unresponsive in the roadway. Deputies say they are canvassing nearby businesses for any surveillance video that might have captured the crash or the suspect vehicle and are urging anyone with information to speak up.

What The Law Says

Texas law is clear: if a driver is involved in a collision that results in death, that driver must stop, check whether anyone needs help and remain at the scene. Leaving instead can lead to felony charges. Texas Transportation Code Sec. 550.021 spells out the duty to stop and render aid and notes that crashes involving death or serious bodily injury can bring prison time and fines. Investigators say they will pursue whatever charges the evidence supports once a suspect is identified.

How This Fits A Troubling Pattern

Deadly pedestrian crashes have become a grimly familiar story in east Harris County in recent years. ABC13 reported a February 2026 hit-and-run on Woodforest Boulevard that left a man dead, and the station also covered a 2022 case in which a man pushing a shopping cart on FM-529 was killed. Investigators say that in hit-and-run cases, tips from witnesses and footage from nearby cameras often become the strongest leads, which is why they keep turning back to the public for help.

Anyone with information about Sunday’s crash is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office or reach out to Crime Stoppers. As Crime Stoppers of Houston notes, tips can be submitted anonymously by phone at 713-222-TIPS (8477) or online. Deputies say the investigation remains ongoing and they are asking anyone with video or information from the area around the time of the crash to come forward.
