Federal and local authorities are putting cash on the table in the search for 23-year-old Jaelyn Fields, wanted by the Akron Police Department and the U.S. Marshals on weapons and shooting charges. Investigators describe Fields as a Black man about 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds who is believed to move between Akron and Cleveland.
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force says Fields is accused of firing a gun into a roadway and is suspected of hitting multiple occupied vehicles. He is also wanted in Summit County for failing to appear in court on a weapons-under-disability case, according to Cleveland19.
How to report a tip
Officials say reward money is available for information that leads to Fields's arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-866-AWANTED (1-866-492-6833) or submit a web tip to the U.S. Marshals. The U.S. Marshals note that tipsters may remain anonymous.
Charges and what they mean
One of the charges listed by authorities is "having weapons while under disability," which Ohio law treats as a felony and defines in the Ohio Revised Code. Discharging a firearm into a roadway is a serious offense that can bring additional charges if people are put at risk or injured.
Where this fits locally
The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, a partnership that includes the U.S. Marshals and Akron police, has been busy in recent months handling fugitive cases across northern Ohio. The group says it plans to lean on public tips and reward offers in its effort to track Fields down. For a recent example of the task force's work in Akron, see a U.S. Marshals press release about a different arrest in the region from the U.S. Marshals.
