Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies say a major cargo theft ring just took a hit, with nine people arrested and millions of dollars’ worth of stolen goods pulled out of warehouses across Southern California.

According to MyNewsLA, deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department served search warrants in Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, recovering what investigators describe as stolen cargo and roughly $1 million in cash. The operation, announced Friday, followed an investigation into organized cargo and retail theft that allegedly used warehouses and fencing operations to move stolen merchandise.

The department said, in a statement reported by MyNewsLA, that “detectives seized approximately $7 million of stolen cargo freight and $1 million in U.S. currency.” The outlet reports the nine suspects were booked on suspicion of grand theft of cargo, money laundering, and receiving stolen property, and that investigators plan to present the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.

What Investigators Say They Recovered

Detectives say the stash looked more like a crowded big-box warehouse than a crime scene, with what they describe as a wide range of high-demand consumer items. The haul included televisions, microwaves, printers, shoes, soundbars, tools, and even recreational vehicles.

MyNewsLA reports the recovered goods span brands such as Hisense, LG, Canon, Wolff, and Sony. Investigators said 36 companies were affected, including JB Hunt, Amazon, Sony, LG, and Costco.

How The Task Force Is Fighting Back

The takedown was carried out under the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Organized Retail Crimes Task Force, a unit created to go after fencing operations and large-scale cargo theft.

The task force was formed in September 2023, SCVNews reported, and brings together detectives from across Los Angeles County along with partner agencies to serve warrants and recover stolen inventory.

Why The Crackdown Matters

State officials say enforcement efforts have ramped up in recent years. The Governor’s office noted in January 2026 that operations across California recovered nearly $17 million in high-value stolen items in 2025, describing it as part of a sharp rise in organized theft investigations.

Locally, the trend has been just as stark. Earlier this year, the LAPD’s Cargo Theft Task Force served its own warrants that led to more than $5 million in property recoveries, according to the LAPD, underscoring how cargo crews do not stop at city or county borders.

The Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information related to the case or similar thefts to contact the Organized Retail Crimes Task Force at [email protected] or 562-946-7270. Anonymous tips can be submitted to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477), per SCVNews. Investigators say the probe is ongoing and that more details, including potential filing decisions by the District Attorney’s Office, could be released as the review moves forward.
