Where the closure is
The shutdown hit the stretch of U.S. 95 Alternate that runs through Mason Valley between Silver Springs and Yerington. Luzier Lane borders the Anaconda Copper Mine site, according to federal planning documents, and BLM ePlanning maps show the highway skirting the mine's eastern boundary while serving nearby ranches and homes.

Nevada State Police said the collision was fatal, and troopers are leading the on-site investigation. Officials have not released the names of those involved or any details about what may have caused the head-on impact while evidence is still being processed.
Drivers were told to steer clear of the area while crews remained on scene, and state police and local agencies are expected to share updates as the investigation moves forward. This post will be updated when officials release additional information.
