A double killing in the south Las Vegas valley had homicide detectives and patrol officers working late into Monday night, as Las Vegas police opened a full homicide investigation and kept the scene locked down.
Authorities said little publicly in the hours after the crime. The identities of the two victims were not released, and police did not say whether anyone had been arrested or detained. Metro detectives continued processing the area well into the evening.
According to FOX5 Las Vegas, investigators with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the scene is near Starr Avenue and Dean Martin Drive. Officials had not provided any additional details late Monday night.
LVMPD response and how to help
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department lists its Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521 and [email protected] for information related to open cases. Crime Stoppers is available at 702-385-5555 for those who want to remain anonymous.
Recent violence in the south valley
This section of the valley has seen multiple deadly incidents in recent weeks and months. On January 28, KTNV reported that a child called 911 and officers later found two people dead inside a south valley home, a separate homicide case that was also handled by LVMPD's Homicide Section.
LVMPD press releases regularly note that the Clark County Coroner's Office is responsible for releasing victims' identities and official causes of death. Metro has not said when the coroner will release that information in this latest case, according to a recent LVMPD news post. This is a developing story and will be updated as Metro or the coroner release more details.
