A grim discovery along a popular Livonia roadway has turned a quiet stretch of parkland into an active crime scene. A severely decomposed body, believed to be a man, was recovered yesterday from a creek near Hines Drive and Levan Road, according to police. Officers called to the area just after 6 p.m. found the body partially submerged and clothed in a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, and black shoes.
The discovery has triggered a full investigation by Livonia authorities, who are treating the site with caution while they work to piece together what happened.
As reported by FOX 2 Detroit, officers were dispatched after a passerby reported spotting the body in the water. The station also noted that the Livonia Police Department is asking anyone with information to call 734-466-2340. Police have not yet publicly identified the person or released a cause of death.
Where the Body Was Found
The section of Edward Hines Drive around Levan runs alongside wooded creek corridors and the Rouge River, forming part of a long county parkway that can feel surprisingly secluded once you step away from the road. Wayne County Parks describes Edward Hines Drive as a roughly 17.5-mile scenic corridor with trails and waterways that can be remote in spots.
That mix of natural beauty and isolation can complicate searches and recoveries, and it makes quick calls from people passing through the area especially important when something seems off.
Past Incidents Near Hines Park
This is not the first time bodies or human remains have been found in or near Hines Park. In previous years, discoveries along the parkway and its waterways have at times led to criminal charges and lengthy investigations.
In one high-profile case, a Westland man was charged after a woman's body was found in a creek at Hines Park in 2019, according to WXYZ. Those earlier incidents highlight how the park's creeks and rivers have occasionally become scenes of suspicious and tragic discoveries.
Police Investigation
Livonia police say the investigation into Saturday's discovery is ongoing and that they are keeping many details under wraps while they sort through evidence and leads.
As FOX 2 Detroit reports, anyone with information is urged to call 734-466-2340. Investigators are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who was in the area Saturday evening or who may have dash camera or other video footage from around Hines Drive and Levan Road.
