Milestone Reporting Company is cutting roughly 80 positions at its downtown Orlando office on Robinson Street, a sizable shakeup for one of the city’s go-to litigation-support outfits. The reductions will hit court reporters and administrative staff and could reshape how depositions and transcripts get scheduled in the city’s core legal district.
According to a story by Ryan Lynch in the Orlando Business Journal, the company’s cuts are centered at Milestone’s Robinson Street location and total about 80 jobs. The report notes that both court-reporting roles and back-office positions are among those affected.
Milestone Reporting Company lists its Orlando office at 315 East Robinson Street, Suite 510. From that downtown perch, the firm offers court-reporting, deposition, and legal-video services across Florida, serving law firms and litigation teams that rely on in-person proceedings and same-day transcripts.
Industry context
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects little or no change in employment for court reporters and simultaneous captioners from 2024 to 2034, with about 17,700 jobs in 2024 and roughly 1,700 annual openings, largely from retirements rather than new growth. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, technology can make transcription more efficient, but trained reporters are still needed to review and edit digitally produced records.
That mix of flat demand, an aging workforce, and advancing digital tools has pushed many litigation-support firms to rethink how they structure their operations and staffing. When an established provider trims its roster, local firms that rely on contracted court reporters can feel the squeeze first in the downtown legal corridors where calendars are already tight.
Where affected workers can turn
Workers caught up in mass layoffs are often eligible for a range of state and federal reemployment services. Larger reductions can trigger Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) and Rapid Response processes designed to connect displaced employees with job-search help, training opportunities, and benefits information.
The U.S. Department of Labor offers guidance on WARN notices and Rapid Response programs and directs laid-off workers to local career centers and workforce partners that can help with next steps.
Orlando Business Journal first reported the Milestone cuts, and the company’s local office page confirms the downtown Robinson Street address. This story will be updated if the firm issues a public statement or if state workforce filings spell out the timing of the reductions.
