A Pitt County grand jury has handed up an eight-count indictment against a former Greenville police officer, according to state investigators, deepening a case that started with his arrest last September and cost him his job back in 2021. The former officer, 30-year-old Dominic Olivares, now faces allegations tied to incidents that investigators say stretch from 2019 through 2025.

New indictment detailed

According to WITN, the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation reports that a Pitt County grand jury on Monday returned an indictment on eight counts: two counts of first-degree exploitation of a minor, two counts of second-degree exploitation and four counts of third-degree exploitation. The SBI told reporters the alleged offenses took place in October 2019, on June 7, 2021, and on Sept. 23, 2025.

Arrest last fall

Olivares was arrested on Sept. 23, 2025, in Fuquay-Varina and initially charged by the SBI with multiple child-exploitation offenses, according to WRAL. Warrants in that investigation alleged he used a 16-year-old to produce sexual videos. He was booked under a $150,000 bond and later posted bail.

Department probe and dismissal

The Greenville Police Department says it forwarded complaints about Olivares to the SBI in May 2021 and then fired him on Aug. 5, 2021, after an internal review. In the dismissal letter obtained by WITN, city officials wrote that Olivares repeatedly answered “no” on pre-employment forms when asked if he had ever been questioned as a possible suspect. The letter states that Fuquay-Varina police had previously interviewed him and served a search warrant in a 2017 case that ultimately did not lead to charges.

What investigators say

The SBI says the case widened as additional victims came forward, and that the new grand-jury indictment reflects how the investigation has grown. The bureau has urged anyone with concerns about prior interactions with Olivares to contact agents at 919-662-4500, according to the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation.

Legal process

Officials told local media that the latest counts were filed in Pitt County and will move through that court system. Olivares had previously made an initial court appearance in Wake County after his Sept. 2025 arrest and was released after posting bond, according to reporting by WRAL.

Greenville police response

Greenville police have said publicly that the department acted once it received the first complaint in 2021, and that Olivares did not work in units that handled cases involving minors. That account, along with other details of the department’s internal review, has been shared in local coverage. WCTI reported the department’s comments and its timeline of events.
