A Fort Lupton man who supervised a church nursery is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child over several years, with investigators alleging the abuse took place both in his home and at a local church. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect as Jesus Chacon and says he was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of 25 counts of sexual assault on a child after a juvenile reported long-term abuse by a family friend.
According to a post from the Weld County Sheriff's Office, patrol deputies were called on March 10 to a follow-up in the 16000 block of Coleman Ave in the Aristocrat Ranchettes, where a juvenile disclosed she had allegedly been assaulted over roughly four years. Detectives developed the case in the days that followed and arrested Chacon on March 24, the agency said. The Sheriff’s Office listed Detective Jeremy McLaughlan as the case contact at (970) 400-5816 and reiterated in its post that “all charges are merely accusations until proven guilty in a court of law.”
The First United Methodist Church of Fort Lupton, located at 306 Park Ave, maintains a nursery program, according to its church profile. Church documents and directories describe the congregation and its regular children’s programming but do not address or comment on the ongoing investigation.
Investigation timeline
The Sheriff’s Office says the March 10 follow-up call and disclosure triggered a detective-led investigation that culminated in Chacon’s March 24 arrest. The agency has shared an update on its news page while investigators continue gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. Officials have not released additional case documents while the investigation remains active.
Legal context
Colorado law criminalizes sexual assault on a child and includes separate provisions for offenses committed by someone in a position of trust, with enhanced penalties when there is a pattern of abuse or when the victim is particularly young. For the statutory language, see C.R.S. 18-3-405 and C.R.S. 18-3-405.3, which address sexual assault on a child, position-of-trust offenses, and pattern-of-abuse provisions.
The Weld County District Attorney’s Office will review the investigative file and decide on any formal charges in the Nineteenth Judicial District. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact Detective Jeremy McLaughlan at (970) 400-5816 or provide tips to the Sheriff’s Office. The District Attorney’s Office can be reached through its website for procedural questions.
