Philadelphia woke up to a raw, late-winter setup on Sunday morning, March 1, 2026, with temperatures near 37°F at Philadelphia International Airport and a brisk north-northwest wind around 25 mph cutting through the clouds. Visibility is holding near 10 miles, but low clouds and pockets of patchy freezing fog, especially southeast of I-95, could leave untreated sidewalks and shaded side streets on the slick side for the morning rush.
This Morning's Hazards
An arctic front stalled over the Delmarva is hanging back just enough to let a wave of low pressure slide by and clip the region. That setup brings a window of wintry precipitation this morning, mainly north of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and I-195 in New Jersey, with a brief shot at spotty freezing rain before colder air flips the mix to light snow.
Where snow does fall, it is expected to stay on the lighter side, generally a coating to around an inch, and any ice buildup should be patchy and minor, according to National Weather Service Mount Holly.
What To Expect Today
Look for a chance of rain showers between about 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., then a brief period of mixed rain and snow in the 9 to 10 a.m. window. Through the rest of the day, skies should stay mostly cloudy with a high near 41°F in the city.
North winds around 5 to 10 mph will back off later this afternoon. By Sunday night, March 1, colder air settles in with lows in the 20s and wind chills dipping into the teens, a reminder that winter is not ready to bow out just yet.
Tuesday Commute Watch
Another round of precipitation is lined up after midnight Monday night into Tuesday morning, March 3, 2026. It is expected to start as snow before a layer of warmer air higher up in the atmosphere introduces mixing with freezing rain, followed by a changeover to plain rain by Tuesday afternoon.
That wintry mix could turn the Tuesday morning drive into a slower, slicker commute in spots, with only minor snow accumulations and a light ice risk. Build in some extra travel time and keep an eye on transit updates from SEPTA.
Late-Week Warmup
Once Tuesday's system moves out, the pattern flips fast. A noticeable warmup is expected late in the week, with highs climbing into the mid 50s on Wednesday, March 4, and potentially reaching the mid 60s on Thursday, March 5, for parts of the region.
After this stretch of cold and wintry mix, that jump will feel almost springlike, and road and sidewalk conditions should rebound quickly by midweek, opening the door for more comfortable outdoor plans.
