A sprawling new apartment project is on its way to Columbus' far-northeast edge, with a local developer betting big on renters who want resort vibes without leaving the Hamilton Road corridor. The plan, a 368-unit community called Windsor Place at Chestnut Hills, would bring hundreds of new apartments near Gahanna and New Albany with class-A finishes and a long list of amenities.

Project details and timeline

According to NBC4, The Daimler Group is developing Windsor Place at Chestnut Hills at 5097 N. Hamilton Road, a 368-unit community spread across 18 two- and three-story buildings. The company told the station that apartments will run from one to three bedrooms and will feature wood flooring, stainless-steel appliances, in-unit washers and dryers, and walk-in closets.

NBC4 reports that Daimler broke ground on the previously undeveloped site in June and expects residents to begin moving in during the fourth quarter of 2026.

The amenity list reads like a vacation brochure. Per NBC4, Windsor Place will include a resort-style pool lined with outdoor kitchens and fire pits, a fitness center with a sauna and pilates room, outdoor parks, a bocce court, and a pond with an overlook deck. The clubhouse, scheduled to open on Labor Day for leasing, is set to include a pool table, golf simulator, movie room, two bars, and large gathering spaces upstairs and downstairs.

"Windsor Place will provide a class-A multifamily community with top market amenities," Bob White Jr. said in comments to NBC4.

Developer and the site

The Daimler Group, a Columbus-based developer and builder founded in the 1980s, is listed as the lead on the project. The firm says it focuses on design, development, and construction throughout central Ohio. Its website highlights a portfolio that includes office, healthcare, and multifamily projects and lists an office on Lake Shore Drive.

The company did not immediately offer additional comment beyond materials shared with NBC4.

Why the location matters

The Windsor Place site falls inside the Northland planning area, a section of Columbus that city planners expect to continue seeing both residential and commercial growth. The city's Northland Plan calls out heavy traffic along Hamilton and Morse roads and recommends transit and roadway upgrades to keep pace with new development, scrutiny that is likely to intensify as another several hundred apartments come online.

Construction is already underway, and leasing at the clubhouse is scheduled to start this fall, with tenant move-ins expected later in the year. Daimler says the complex is aimed at renters who want higher-end finishes and on-site amenities similar to other recent apartment projects across the Columbus region.
