Steny's North Shore officially opened Tuesday in Mequon, taking over the longtime Libby Montana space at 5616 W. Donges Bay Road and giving it a full-on rink vibe. The new outpost is wrapped around an oval, rink-inspired bar and rolls out a family-friendly lineup of wings, burgers, pizza and a Friday cod fish fry. Owners say the layout, along with a west-facing patio, was built with youth hockey families and nearby neighbors squarely in mind.

According to OnMilwaukee, owner Ryan Steny said the bar is a direct nod to the adjacent ice facility. “The bar is inspired by the hockey rink,” he explained, right down to tap handles fashioned from pucks and sticks. The outlet also reports that Steny's installed a LiveBarn video feed so parents can keep an eye on practices at the neighboring youth rink while they eat and drink. OnMilwaukee lists opening hours as Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Menu and game-day staples

The North Shore spot sticks close to the Lake Country playbook, serving Steny's signature wings, burgers and pizza, while also mixing in less expected options like banh mi tacos and blackened shrimp tacos, per OnMilwaukee. Fridays bring a full-on fish fry, with a beer-battered Atlantic cod dinner plus a cod sandwich with coleslaw and rye to keep the Wisconsin tradition alive. Drink specials, including timed deals on Old Fashioneds built to pair with the fry, round out the game-day and post-practice routine.

Where it sits now

The building at 5616 W. Donges Bay Road had housed Libby Montana for more than two decades before that business closed. Libby Montana's own site now notes that it is “officially closed” after 24 years, clearing the way for the Stenys to reboot a well-known neighborhood address next to the new District 5 Ice Barn. Owners say the location, with a patio that will open once the weather cooperates and bike racks planned, was chosen specifically to catch families before and after practices.

What it means for the North Shore

For Mequon, Steny's arrival brings a familiar game-day brand that leans into local rec life, pairing casual bar food with programming that aims squarely at kids and parents. The Steny family has a long Milwaukee track record of turning sports days into community events, and this outpost looks set up to do the same on the North Shore. In the near term, the restaurant is likely to be packed around rink schedules and weekend nights. Over time, the patio and bike-friendly touches position it to become a neighborhood anchor, not just a place to hit between periods.
