A welfare check sparked by an out-of-state police tip ended in a grim discovery Wednesday morning in Jackson Township, Butler County, where two women were found dead inside a home on Dior Drive. The Butler County coroner and Pennsylvania State Police responded, and investigators say there is no threat to the public.
According to WTAE, the case began in Hillside, Illinois, when officers there encountered a man who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police reportedly found identification on the man that pointed to the Dior Drive address in the Jackson Ridge neighborhood, prompting Jackson Township officers to conduct a welfare check.
How Police Say The Case Unfolded
Jackson Township police chief Zeke Reed said in a release that, "At no time was there, nor is there currently, a threat to the community at large," as reported by the Butler Eagle. After the initial response, Reed said the investigation was turned over to the Pennsylvania State Police. The coroner's office confirmed it was called to the scene yesterday morning, but did not immediately release additional details.
Investigators: Scene, Victims And Safety
Pennsylvania State Police said two women were found inside the Dior Drive home with gunshot wounds and are believed to be related to the man who died in Illinois, according to WTAE. Troopers told reporters they are not searching for additional suspects and do not believe there is an ongoing danger to the public while the investigation continues.
Quiet Street Turned Crime Scene
The Butler County coroner's office and Jackson Township units converged on the 200 block of Dior Drive as investigators processed the scene and canvassed the Jackson Ridge neighborhood, the Butler Eagle reports. Officials have not released the victims' names, saying they are working to notify next of kin.
State police say the investigation is ongoing and that more information will be released when it becomes available. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police.
