A Jacksonville man who admitted viewing and sharing child sexual abuse material has been sentenced to five years in Florida state prison, plus a decade of sex-offender probation, and must register as a sex offender. Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols handed down the sentence in a Bunnell courtroom, in a case that investigators say tied illegal online activity to both Palm Coast and Jacksonville.

Sentence and plea

According to Action News Jax, 26-year-old Amias Mabini pleaded guilty to 12 of the 40 counts he originally faced. Judge Nichols sentenced him to five years in state prison, followed by 10 years of sex-offender probation, and ordered him to register as a sex offender.

Investigation and arrest

Per a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office news release, the case began with a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in early 2025. The tip flagged files being shared on the messaging app Kik in September 2024.

Detectives with the sheriff’s office say they documented 40 instances of Mabini viewing and transmitting child sexual abuse material from a residence on Plain View Drive in Palm Coast. Investigators later tracked related online activity to Jacksonville. Mabini ultimately admitted to investigators that he had viewed and shared the material.

Charges and legal consequences

Records cited by First Coast News show Mabini was originally charged with 40 counts of viewing and distributing child pornography with enhancements and eight counts without enhancement. He was booked into jail on a $480,000 bond after his July arrest.

He later pleaded guilty to 12 counts. For those convictions, Judge Nichols imposed five years in Florida state prison and 10 years of sex-offender probation, along with sex-offender registration requirements, First Coast News reports.

Local response and task-force work

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly praised the work of the Cyber Crimes detectives and the State Attorney’s Office in bringing the case to a close, according to the sheriff’s office. FCSO says the investigation was handled by its Cyber Crimes/ICAC Unit with assistance from the Northeast Florida INTERCEPT Task Force, which focuses on finding and prosecuting people who view and distribute child sexual abuse material.
