
A late-night collision on Pinehurst Road in Plumsted Township, Ocean County, left three people dead and a fourth injured after two vehicles slammed into each other on March 1. The crash, which happened around 11:50 p.m., shut down the rural roadway while emergency crews worked the scene. The driver of the Ford Bronco was taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition. How the Wreck Unfolded
According to NBC10 Philadelphia, a Ford Bronco traveling north on Pinehurst Road crossed over the double yellow line into the southbound lane and struck a Toyota Sienna at about 11:50 p.m. Officials told the station that the driver and two passengers in the Sienna were killed. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation, and police and first responders remained at the scene into the overnight hours.
A Dangerous Stretch With a Tragic History
Pinehurst Road, part of Route 539 through sections of Plumsted Township and New Egypt, has been the site of deadly collisions in recent years. In a 2025 press release, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office pointed to a May 2023 crash on Pinehurst Road that led to vehicular homicide charges and eventually a prison sentence, highlighting long-running safety concerns on the rural highway. Prosecutors said that earlier case involved alleged high speed and impairment.
Investigators Seek Answers
Investigators with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and Plumsted Township Police are working to determine what caused the latest wreck and whether charges will be filed, NBC10 Philadelphia reported. Officials have asked anyone with information or video of the crash to contact investigators.
