According to a post by Baltimore Police, detectives acquired information that indicates a connection between the murder of Mr. Lawson and a carjacking, and identified the carjacking as occurring at approximately 1:56 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2022, at 3900 Liberty Heights Avenue. Metro Crime Stoppers explains that callers remain anonymous and may be eligible for rewards if tips lead to arrests. If a crime is in progress, authorities say to dial 911 immediately.
Background and why detectives revisited the 2022 case
Investigators did not spell out the specific lead in the department's post, but the update signals that the 2022 carjacking has taken on new weight in the Lawson homicide inquiry. Breakthroughs in long-running cases often follow new witness tips, fresh looks at video or forensic developments, and police have highlighted vehicle-related leads in several recent carjacking and auto-theft probes this winter.
In recent months, officers have made arrests after locating carjacked vehicles during traffic stops. Our previous coverage of a February traffic stop that produced arrests is one example of how detectives pursue vehicle connections in ongoing investigations: Three Arrested After Carjacked Vehicle.
