What began as a call about an apparent suicide has turned into a homicide case in Madison County. Kyle Long of London was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in the Oct. 23, 2025 death of his wife, Rachel Long, according to the Madison County Sheriff's Office. Investigators say the case was first reported as a possible suicide, then reclassified after evidence and an autopsy suggested the fatal wounds were not self-inflicted.
Deputies took Long into custody Wednesday following a four-month investigation into the October death, WSYX reported. The criminal complaint alleges Long called deputies on Oct. 23 and told them his wife had stabbed herself; when deputies arrived, Rachel Long was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rachel M. Long, 32, owned Pawfect Pups Grooming and Boarding in London, according to her obituary on Legacy. The obituary details funeral arrangements and notes she is survived by two daughters.
Investigation and evidence
Detectives and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation went back over the scene and related records, and the Montgomery County coroner's autopsy described "defensive-type" wounds and at least 17 sharp-force injuries. Officials say those findings led to a homicide ruling on Dec. 26. According to WSYX, detectives said later interviews produced statements that conflicted with the initial account and with the physical evidence, and investigators reviewed 911 call logs and text messages as part of the probe.
Legal proceedings
Long is charged with murder in Madison County Municipal Court and was scheduled to appear Friday morning, according to reporting by Yahoo. As the case moves through the courts, the Madison County sheriff and prosecutor have asked anyone with information to contact Sgt. Rodger Heflin at [email protected].
