A routine traffic stop on Long Beach Road ended with two Nassau County police officers and a Long Beach woman in the hospital, after what authorities describe as a violent struggle during an attempted arrest.
What police say
According to Daily Voice, Nassau County police say officers pulled over 36-year-old Alisha Thomas around 3:30 p.m. on March 11 while she was driving southbound on Long Beach Road in North Long Beach. Investigators allege Thomas, who was behind the wheel of a green 2026 Infiniti QX60, was failing to stay in her lane.
Police say she was determined to be intoxicated before officers tried to take her into custody. At that point, according to the county, the encounter turned “violent and combative,” and both officers and Thomas suffered injuries serious enough to require treatment at a local hospital.
Assault charges carry felony exposure
Assault in the second degree is a Class D felony under New York law and can expose a defendant to significant prison time. As outlined by the New York State Senate, the statute defines assault in the second degree; legal guides note that a Class D felony can carry a prison term of up to seven years, depending on prior convictions and sentencing rules (FindLaw).
Court date and next steps
Per Daily Voice, Thomas was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, along with DWI, second-degree harassment, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations. Her arraignment was scheduled for Thursday in Hempstead.
The case remains under investigation by Nassau County police and is in its early stages in Nassau County court, where prosecutors will decide how to proceed on the felony counts. This article will be updated as new court filings and official statements become available.
