Rosie's Pizza Palace in Lorain is getting ready to flip the open sign back on Wednesday, ending a shutdown that started on Christmas Day after owner Jason Lute was critically injured in a vehicle crash. The family-run takeout spot has been a neighborhood standby for decades, and regulars are already talking about lining up again for their go-to pies.
According to the Morning Journal, the shop will jump straight back into its normal schedule on Wednesday, keeping its usual hours of 4 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 3 to 9 p.m. on Sundays. The outlet notes that Rosie's has been closed since Dec. 25, 2025, while Lute recovered, and that he received an outpouring of supportive messages online during his long layoff.
Owner Recovering After Christmas-Day Crash
Lute, 55, told the Morning Journal he was airlifted to Cleveland following the Dec. 25 collision and ended up with 11 broken bones, including serious injuries to his neck and pelvis. He said his neck brace came off March 5 and described himself as "lucky to be alive" as he carefully works his way back into the kitchen routine.
Longtime Local Staple
The pizzeria's roots stretch back to the 1950s, when founder Rose Brest opened the business, and it shifted to the current Broadway Avenue location in the 1960s. That decades-long run has made Rosie's part of the weekly ritual for plenty of Lorain families. Local records and obituaries detail Brest's role in the community, as noted by LorainCounty.com.
What To Expect At The Reopening
Lute said he plans to ease back into the grind with help from a couple of part-time workers, keeping the menu familiar and the focus on carryout pies that regulars already know by heart. Local listings confirm the shop's address and hours, and Restaurantji lists Rosie's at 3113 Broadway with the Wednesday through Sunday schedule noted above.
