Yesterday, at a McDonald's in Baltimore's Station North turned chaotic when a dispute spilled into the street and one man pulled a machete-style knife, according to city police. The cutting happened before noon on Feb. 26 outside the fast-food spot, and officers say a 35-year-old man was taken to the hospital and later released.
On Wednesday, Baltimore police released photos of the man they believe was involved and asked the public to help put a name to the face. No arrests have been announced, and investigators are appealing to anyone who recognizes the suspect to contact them.
People who frequent the area told WBAL-TV they were stunned that someone would swing a machete-style weapon outside a busy restaurant in broad daylight. One person summed it up bluntly, saying, "I feel like violence should be the last thing." Investigators are urging anyone who recognizes the man in the images to reach out to authorities.
Reward and how to tip
Metro Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest and charges in the case. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP. According to Metro Crime Stoppers, callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for the cash reward if their information helps solve the case.
Neighbors concerned about public safety
Regulars in Station North told WBAL-TV that the attack rattled them, less because of the dispute itself and more because of how fast it escalated and the weapon involved. The idea that an everyday argument outside a neighborhood McDonald's can turn into a machete incident in seconds has left many uneasy.
Police say they are reviewing surveillance footage as the investigation continues and are asking anyone with video from the area or other information to contact Metro Crime Stoppers or the Baltimore Police Department, WBAL-TV reports.
