State troopers say a crash just after midnight Sunday on Walter Grissom Road, north of Franklinton, left one person dead and shut down the rural two‑lane road for several hours. Emergency crews and investigators closed the section near General Green Road while they worked the scene, and traffic did not resume until the area was cleared early Sunday.
In a statement to CBS17, the N.C. State Highway Patrol communications team confirmed troopers responded to the wreck and said investigators are still working to determine what led to the collision. Officials have not publicly released the name of the person who was killed.
Road Reopened Early Sunday

Local coverage showed emergency vehicles clustered along the shut‑down stretch, including a photograph credited to Cole Sams that captured responders working on Walter Grissom Road. CBS17 reported the crash was called in just after midnight and that troopers had not released any additional information about the circumstances of the incident.
