A quiet morning today in south St. Petersburg turned chaotic when gunfire near a neighborhood intersection wounded a teenage boy and an adult woman, briefly sending nearby schools into lockdown while police locked down the area.
The shooting happened near 15th Avenue South and 11th Street South, where officers found both victims and had them taken to a local hospital. The teen’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening, and officials had not immediately released the woman’s condition.
Officers were called to the scene after reports of shots fired around 10:40 a.m., according to the Tampa Free Press. The outlet reports that a suspect was detained, and detectives are working to determine what led up to the gunfire.
Police Response And School Precautions

The department’s site also lists its non-emergency number and TIP411 service for those who may have information to share with investigators.
What Remains Unclear
Authorities have not yet released the names of the two victims or the suspect who was taken into custody, and no charges had been announced as of Wednesday afternoon, the Tampa Free Press reports. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and asking residents to review any home-security or doorbell-camera footage for details that might help piece together what happened.
