Parma City Schools has launched a new parent-facing bus-tracking app that gives guardians live GPS views, arrival confirmations and direct messaging with the district’s transportation office. District officials say the tool should cut down the time families spend shivering at the bus stop and give parents more insight on hectic mornings and sudden route changes.
How the app works
Stopfinder, built by routing-software company Transfinder, lets parents create GeoAlert zones, check estimated times of arrival and receive push notifications when a bus is nearing a stop, according to Transfinder. The platform also includes secure two-way messaging so families can contact transportation staff directly, plus a forms feature districts can use to send electronic notices. Transfinder notes that the app ties into its Routefinder routing system so districts can push targeted alerts to a specific bus, school or stop instead of blasting every family at once.
What officials are saying
Brett Campbell, the district’s transportation supervisor, told Cleveland.com that “this app has so many different levels to it” and that it gives “a real-time location so parents can see exactly where the bus is.” Cleveland.com reported that the rollout followed the district’s move to Transfinder for routing, which set the stage for Stopfinder to come online. The outlet also noted that parents will receive confirmation when their child boards and when a bus arrives at school.
How to sign up
Parma’s transportation page says families should look for an email invitation to register and that the Stopfinder app is available for free in both the Apple App Store and on Google Play, according to the Parma City School District. The district lists a fleet of about 98 buses and still recommends students arrive at their assigned stop 10 minutes early. Parents who do not receive an invite or who run into trouble setting things up are directed to contact the transportation office for support.
Why it matters
Parma’s move joins a broader shift toward parent-facing tracking tools that aim to cut down on missed pickups and clean up communication headaches. Transfinder says Stopfinder is already in use at multiple districts and is free for parents. Families with lingering questions about routes, late buses or app access can reach out to the district’s transportation office directly for help.
