A Dallas resident has turned a single ticket into a life-changing windfall, claiming a $2.4 million Texas Two Step jackpot from the March 5 drawing. The payout ranks as a near-record prize for the in-state game and ended a multi-week rollover that pushed the jackpot to its biggest top payout in roughly 20 years.
According to the Texas Lottery, one Quick Pick ticket matched all four white-ball numbers (2, 3, 19, 29) plus the red Bonus Ball (9) in the March 5 draw. The winning ticket was sold at 7-Eleven Convenience Store #36361A, located at 4590 Frankford Rd. in Dallas. Official results show 55,867 total winners across all prize tiers for that night.
How the long run finally snapped
The jackpot run started in early February with an estimated $200,000 and steadily grew through a string of rollovers before a single ticket finally hit on March 5. The extended climb and eventual $2.4 million payday drew statewide attention, with GamblingNews and other outlets spotlighting both the unusually long run and the size of the prize.
Near-record payday for a small-ticket game
Texas Lottery officials had pointed out that the $2.4 million jackpot would be the biggest Texas Two Step prize since a $2.9 million award in April 2006, a rare high-water mark for a $1-per-play game. The agency also noted that the retailer that sold the winning ticket may be eligible for a $5,000 bonus under its Retailer Bonus Program. Drawings for Texas Two Step are held on Mondays and Thursdays, and all prizes must be properly validated before they are paid out.
Claiming and tax basics
Local coverage reports that the jackpot was claimed later in March by a winner identified only as a Dallas resident, while public draw records list just the retailer city and winning numbers. WFAA noted the claimant's city of residence, and federal guidance serves as a reminder that gambling winnings are taxable income. For large payouts, the payer typically withholds at a flat rate, and winners may still owe additional tax when they file their returns. For details on withholding and reporting rules, see IRS Publication 17.
Under state rules, the Frankford Road 7-Eleven listed on the official results will receive the retailer bonus, and the Two Step jackpot has reset to its $200,000 starting amount now that the top prize has been hit. The $1-per-play game continues with twice-weekly drawings, and winning tickets must be claimed within the timeframe established by the Texas Lottery.
