Firefighters kept a carport fire from turning into something worse in Palms on Thursday morning, quickly knocking down flames reported in the 3500 block of South Motor Avenue. The blaze was confined to a vehicle and did not spread to nearby buildings, and emergency crews reported no injuries. Crews also shut off gas service to a broken line and remained on scene for an overhaul while utility crews were dispatched.
According to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department, firefighters from Fire Station 43 and multiple battalion and engine companies responded to the call and listed the incident as 'Structure Fire - Now Out' (INC#0695). The department's public posts, named Engine 43, Engine 62, and Battalion 18, were among the responding units. The alert noted that crews quickly extinguished the flames and that the gas company was en route after service was shut off to a broken line.
'Auto fire in a carport with no extension to surrounding structures,' the department wrote in its alert and in a post on its X account. The X update was published by LAFD on Thursday evening and contained the same on-scene details. Firefighters remained on site to overhaul damage and ensure the area was secure.
Gas Safety And What To Do
Crews shut off natural gas to a damaged line as a precaution while utility workers were dispatched to the scene. Officials did not report any evacuations connected to the incident.
Local Response Kept Damage Minimal
Fire Station 43 sits on Motor Avenue within minutes of the incident location, helping crews get a rapid start on suppression and salvage operations, according to the department's Los Angeles Fire Department. The quick knockdown limited damage to the vehicle and spared adjacent structures, and city incident logs show the call was logged as INC#0695. The Los Angeles Fire Department did not list any injuries or displacement of residents in its bulletin.
