Past incidents and community response
The Decatur–Pennwood corridor has seen gunfire before. In 2020, a man was found shot to death on a sidewalk near Decatur and Pennwood, a case documented by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In response to concerns about violence and safety, local groups and police have teamed up for neighborhood outreach, peace walks, and family events in the area, as highlighted in coverage of a recent peace walk and family festival.
How officials are tracking gun violence
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department data shows 47 shooting victims year-to-date through the week ending March 8, 2026, down from 55 at the same point last year, according to the department’s weekly statistical report from LVMPD. It is a modest drop, though each new case still lands hard in the neighborhoods where bullets fly.
Anyone with information about Saturday’s shooting is asked to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or [email protected]. To remain anonymous, tipsters can reach Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555, per LVMPD. Detectives remain on scene as they work to determine what led up to the gunfire.
Metro detectives are continuing the probe and are urging anyone with video or additional information to contact investigators. This story will be updated as authorities release more details.
