Nathaniel Searight has admitted to charges in a late-night assault that left a security guard fighting for his life after a confrontation outside a Cleveland apartment complex. Prosecutors say Searight pleaded guilty to attempted murder, having weapons while under disability and attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He now faces sentencing on April 30, 2026. The attack happened on Sept. 30, 2025, and the 34-year-old security officer was rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition.
According to Cleveland 19, Searight entered his guilty plea Monday in Cuyahoga County court. The station reports he pleaded to attempted murder, having weapons while under disability and attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and that his sentencing is scheduled for April 30.
Security Work Comes With Extra Risk
The case highlights a reality many Cleveland security workers already know too well: the job can be dangerous even on a routine shift. Federal workplace-violence data show protective-service occupations, including police and security guards, are hit especially hard by fatal on-the-job attacks. NIOSH/CDC found that protective-service workers made up about 19% of workplace homicides in the years it analyzed.
Overnight Violence Outside Prospect Avenue Apartments
Cleveland 19 reports that officers responding around 3 a.m. to the 1000 block of Prospect Ave found the security guard lying on the ground with Searight standing over him. Cleveland EMS took the 34-year-old victim to MetroHealth in critical condition. Authorities have not publicly released the guard’s name.
Case Heads Straight To Sentencing
With the guilty plea entered, there will be no trial. The case now moves directly to sentencing, currently set for April 30, 2026. Any additional court filings, along with potential victim impact statements, are expected to be addressed at that hearing.
