A man who witnesses say cruised through Riverview Park and exposed himself to multiple women has neighbors on edge and Pittsburgh Police digging into a string of unsettling encounters in the Perry North area. Victims described the behavior as brazen, and one woman stayed on the phone with 911 the entire time until officers got to the scene. Police say several people reported similar incidents across the park and that detectives have identified a person of interest, although no charges have been filed so far.
What police and witnesses told Channel 11
According to WPXI, Pittsburgh Police received multiple reports of a man engaging in lewd behavior in different sections of Riverview Park and say they have identified a person of interest in the case. Witness Danielle Engstrom told the station the man repeatedly circled her friend in a car before briefly getting out and exposing himself. “I think it’s awful and just absolutely wrong,” Engstrom said. Her friend stayed on the line with 911 until officers arrived, WPXI reports, and investigators are continuing to chase down leads based on those witness accounts.
Riverview’s trails and the broader pattern of park incidents
Riverview Park sits on Pittsburgh’s North Side and features wooded trails, a pool, soccer fields, and playgrounds, according to the City of Pittsburgh. The recent reports have rattled neighbors who rely on the park’s paths and fields for everyday walks, workouts, and family time. They also echo other troubling park incidents in recent years. A multi-victim investigation in Frick Park in 2024 drew wide attention to similar lewd behavior and underscored how crucial witness video can be, according to KDKA/CBS Pittsburgh. In the wake of those cases, community groups and residents have pushed for better lighting and more visible patrols on popular trails to deter predators and reassure families that their neighborhood parks are safe.
Potential charges under state law
Under Pennsylvania law, exposing one’s genitals in a public place can result in an indecent exposure charge under 18 Pa.C.S. § 3127, which criminalizes exposing genitals where others are likely to be offended or alarmed, as outlined on FindLaw. Prosecutors can also pursue open lewdness under 18 Pa.C.S. § 5901, a misdemeanor that covers any lewd act the defendant knows is likely to be observed and that will affront or alarm others, according to state code summaries and case law discussed on Justia. Whether any of those charges are ultimately filed typically depends on witness statements, available video or physical evidence, and the district attorney’s review of the case.
How to report tips and what to preserve
Anyone with information about the Riverview Park incidents is urged to call 911 in an emergency or contact Pittsburgh Police Zone 4 detectives. The Zone 4 station lists (412) 422-6520 as its contact number, according to the City of Pittsburgh. WPXI reports that multiple people have already filed police reports and that detectives are working from descriptions provided by those witnesses. If you were in the park and captured any video or noticed key details, hang on to that information and share it with investigators, since that kind of documentation is often what turns an active investigation into formal charges.
