A brightly plumed peacock turned a quiet South Jersey weekend into a neighborhood spectacle, strutting through backyards in Cherry Hill on Saturday before later popping up miles away near Voorhees. The bird hopped fences, sauntered across patios and stayed one step ahead of police and animal-control crews who tried, unsuccessfully, to corral it. Its glossy, iridescent feathers drew plenty of smiles and a few worried looks from neighbors mostly united on one point: they just wanted the bird to end up safe.
According to FOX 29 Philadelphia, residents first spotted the peacock Saturday afternoon in the Fox Hollow neighborhood, where Naseem Brady said her sons recorded the unexpected visitor strolling across a neighbor's patio. Cherry Hill police responded but could not contain the bird. About 24 hours after that first sighting, the peacock was seen several miles away off Springdale Road in Cherry Hill and was later reported near the Target on White Horse Road in Voorhees. It was not immediately clear where the bird came from or whether authorities had managed to capture it.
