After roughly 25 years on West Alabama, Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is getting ready to say goodbye to Upper Kirby. The longtime location at 2405 West Alabama is set to close on April 18, with the company opting not to renew its lease. The dining room will remain open for reservations through mid-April, and staff are being offered transfers to other Fleming's restaurants in the Houston area.
Lease Not Renewed; Team Offered Transfers
In a statement to CultureMap Houston, Elizabeth Daly, director of media & community relations for parent company Bloomin' Brands, said the Upper Kirby restaurant "chose not to renew its lease" at 2405 West Alabama and will close on April 18. Daly added that team members "will have the opportunity to transfer to another restaurant" and thanked the neighborhood for its support over "the past 25 years."
Where to Find Fleming’s in Houston
Fleming's is steering regulars to its other Houston-area locations. The chain lists restaurants at Town & Country Village and The Woodlands Mall, and, according to Fleming's, reservations and promotions for those branches remain available online.
Neighborhood Roots And Local Alumni
As CultureMap Houston notes, the Upper Kirby restaurant has been part of the block since the early 2000s and benefitted from the attention of local leaders in its early days. One notable alumnus, Sam Governale, served as an operating partner there before departing Fleming's in 2017 to open his own restaurant, Emmaline, the Houston Chronicle reported.
Local Steakhouse Shakeups
Fleming's departure is the latest shakeup for Inner Loop steak lovers. Perry's Steakhouse & Grille closed its River Oaks location in January after a dispute with its landlord, according to Community Impact. And the live-fire steakhouse Andiron shut down in 2025 after roughly two years in business, Eater Houston reported.
Final Menus And Last Chances
For now, it is business as usual inside the Upper Kirby dining room. Fleming's says it will continue to run its regular chainwide promotions through the final weeks, including the Tomahawk Tuesday prix-fixe special and a two-course Easter weekend brunch on April 4 and 5. Those offers are listed on Fleming's, and guests can still grab remaining tables through the brand's reservation system.
When the doors close for good on April 18, Upper Kirby will lose a long-standing restaurant anchor and one of the more formal options along the West Alabama corridor. The company says it appreciates the neighborhood's support over the decades and hopes to see familiar faces at its remaining Houston locations.
