A quiet southwest Houston street turned into a crime scene early Sunday after a pedestrian was struck and killed, and homicide detectives are now leading the investigation, according to Houston police.
Officers were called around 1:45 a.m. to the 6100 block of Marinette Drive, where they found the victim and shut down the area while Crime Scene Investigators documented evidence. The case remains active, and investigators have not released the victim’s identity.
As reported by Click2Houston, HPD’s Homicide Division is treating the crash as a vehicular homicide investigation and detectives responded to the Marinette Drive block early Sunday. The outlet noted that Crime Scene Investigators were visible working the site and that officers were processing evidence. No additional information has been released about the vehicle involved or whether the driver stayed at the scene.
What investigators are asking
Police have not released the name of the victim or identified any suspects, and it is not yet clear whether anyone has been detained. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, according to the department’s contact page (Houston Police Department).
How this fits in Houston’s road-safety picture
The deadly crash comes against a backdrop of persistently high traffic deaths in Houston. City records show 2024 was the deadliest year on record for roadway fatalities, and preliminary numbers indicate roughly 300 traffic deaths in 2025, with pedestrians making up a significant share, according to reporting by Axios. In response, advocates and city officials have called for corridor redesigns and Vision Zero strategies aimed at driving down pedestrian deaths on major streets.
This is a developing story, and Hoodline will update as HPD releases more details. See initial reporting from Click2Houston.
