Las Vegas woke up clear and mild on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, with temperatures in the mid 70s and highs still expected to top out near 81°F this afternoon. The calm start will not last long, though, as southwest winds are set to crank up by late morning, potentially making afternoon commutes and lake time a bit of an adventure.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a Wind Advisory from 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026, through 2 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, calling for southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph in exposed locations, with the strongest gusts expected along the I 15 corridor and in passes and ridgelines, according to NWS Las Vegas. The advisory notes that gusts will blow around unsecured objects and could create hazardous conditions for small craft on Lake Mead.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Southwest breezes are forecast to build into the afternoon, with sustained speeds commonly in the mid teens to mid 20s and gusts into the 30s across the valley. Some locations may see stronger bursts. Patchy blowing dust is possible between about 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., particularly in open desert and construction zones, and Clark County’s Division of Air Quality has issued a dust advisory for parts of the valley, per FOX5 Las Vegas. Drivers on I 15 and other open highways should be ready for sudden gusts and brief drops in visibility where dust kicks up.
Rain Chance And Overnight
There is a slight chance of light rain showers from late Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday, with higher odds overnight across the southern Great Basin and higher terrain. Any valley rain totals are expected to be light if they are measurable at all. Snow levels are forecast to stay above roughly 8,500 feet, so no winter impacts are expected in the valley, according to NWS Las Vegas.
How To Stay Safe
Secure patio furniture, outdoor signs and any loose items now, and tie down lightweight trailers before the gusts really start to ramp up. If you are towing or driving a high profile vehicle, slow down, grip the wheel and give yourself extra space on the road. Boaters should skip small craft outings on Lake Mead while the advisory is in effect.
