A Venice man is back behind bars this week after a deeper forensic search of his electronics allegedly uncovered a cache of illicit images, ballooning his case to 42 felony counts. Philip O. Radke, 36, was first arrested last Wednesday, then picked up again on Wednesday when investigators said newly analyzed evidence pointed to far more material than they initially thought. The case has pulled in several Sarasota County units and is still unfolding as detectives chase fresh leads.
According to the Tampa Free Press, deputies served search and arrest warrants at a Venice residence last Wednesday, charging Radke with two counts of transmission of child pornography. After he posted bond, specialists in a digital forensics lab began combing through electronic devices seized from the home and allegedly located a significant volume of additional illegal images. That discovery prompted the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit to track Radke down and re-arrest him on Wednesday. Investigators say he now faces 40 more counts of felony possession of child pornography and is being held at the local correctional facility with no bond allowed.
Digital forensics expanded the probe
The Sheriff’s Office has been leaning increasingly on its Digital Forensics Lab to turn seized phones, computers, and other devices into new evidence in online exploitation cases. Past releases from the agency show the lab routinely examines confiscated electronics and that these deep dives often generate extra charges as investigations move forward, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. Once new digital evidence surfaces, the Fugitive Apprehension Unit and tactical teams frequently step in to handle follow-up arrests. It is a pattern that highlights how a hard drive or phone can quickly widen the scope of a child sexual exploitation probe.
Tip from national center launched the probe
Detectives say all of this started with a cyber tip that landed in Sarasota County after being passed along by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. As reported by the Tampa Free Press, that CyberTipline referral led an ICAC Task Force to open an investigation that culminated in the March warrants. The CyberTipline serves as a national clearinghouse where tech companies and the public can report suspected online child sexual exploitation; NCMEC then routes those reports to the appropriate law enforcement partners, according to NCMEC. That back-and-forth between national analysts and local ICAC units is a routine gateway into cases like this one.
Legal next steps
Radke now faces multiple felony counts that, under Florida law, may be charged separately for each image or file. Possession of child pornography falls under Chapter 827 of the state statutes and can bring prison time and fines, while more serious variations of the crime can ratchet up penalties further, according to the Florida Legislature. The ongoing investigation will determine whether prosecutors at the state or federal level choose to file any additional charges beyond what is already in place. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations section at 941-861-4900, consistent with prior guidance and press notices from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say the case remains open and are not releasing further details at this time. Anyone with tips is urged to call the number above. This story will be updated as new court filings or official statements become available.
