A DeLand woman was hurt early yesterday after a man she knew as “Bando” allegedly slashed her with a box cutter and threatened her with a gun, according to deputies. The victim was treated for her injuries, and investigators say the case is still very much active.
As reported by WFTV, the attack happened on South Florida Avenue. The victim gave deputies video of the suspect’s vehicle, which investigators say helped them identify 22-year-old Amarion Franklin as the man she knew as “Bando.” After his arrest, Franklin was taken to a local detention center and is being held at the Volusia County Jail, according to the station.
County data and local patrols
Volusia County Sheriff's Office CompStat reports track monthly counts of aggravated and simple assaults across districts and help guide where patrols go and how crime-prevention efforts are focused. The statistics do not address this specific incident, but they show how the sheriff's office keeps an eye on weapon-related cases across the county.
How Florida law treats weaponized assaults
Under Florida Statute 784.021, an assault committed with a deadly weapon, even without intent to kill, is classified as aggravated assault. It is a third-degree felony that can bring up to five years in prison plus fines. If a firearm is used during an enumerated felony, section 775.087, commonly known as the “10-20-Life” statute, can impose mandatory minimum prison sentences.
Arrest status and next steps
WFTV reports Franklin remains in custody at the Volusia County Jail, and its coverage did not list any formal charges. Prosecutors are expected to review the case file and decide what charges to pursue as detectives continue processing evidence.
