A woman in her 50s was killed and another woman was injured early Saturday after they were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of West Little York Road and De Priest in northwest Houston. Police say the driver took off and both women were hit by the same vehicle, as per KHOU.
What police say
Houston police say one woman, believed to be about 50 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators described the suspected vehicle as a black Chevrolet Tahoe from the early 2010s, or possibly a late-2009 model, and said the driver headed east on West Little York after the crash. No arrest has been made, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Houston Police Department, according to KHOU.
Vehicle description and search
Officers initially looked into reports that the driver had stopped after the collision, but those accounts were later ruled out as detectives processed the scene. HPD Sgt. Sudduth told reporters investigators believe the driver was a woman and that detectives were canvassing nearby businesses for surveillance video. Investigators also asked drivers who were in the area to check any dash-cam recordings for images of the crash or the fleeing SUV.
How to help
Anyone who saw the crash or may have recorded it is urged to contact the Houston Police Department so detectives can follow up on leads. Tips and possible video can be shared with investigators as they continue looking for the vehicle and its driver, according to KHOU.
What to know
The investigation remains active, and police have not released the names of the victims. Authorities are asking the public to review any available camera footage and to contact HPD with information that could help identify the SUV or the driver.
