A California Highway Patrol pursuit on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway that hit roughly 100 mph ended in Alhambra on Monday night when one of two speeding motorcyclists crashed near Fremont Avenue. Officers said the rider who went down was arrested and taken to a hospital, while the second motorcyclist escaped the pursuit. The chase spilled off the freeway and onto surface streets in East Los Angeles and Alhambra before it finally came to a stop.
How the CHP says the chase unfolded
CHP officers responded at about 9:41 p.m. Monday to a call for speeding on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway near Vincent Avenue and began chasing two motorcycles, according to MyNewsLA. The pursuit reached about 100 mph and split when one rider headed toward the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway while the other continued onto surface streets and crashed near Fremont Avenue in Alhambra, the outlet reported.
"The rider 'was arrested and taken to a hospital in an unknown condition,'" CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service, according to MyNewsLA. Video from the scene showed a CHP officer carrying a gun in an evidence bag recovered from the crash site, the report said.
Local fallout and past crashes
Alhambra has experienced deadly pursuit-related collisions in recent months. On Nov. 20, 2025, an Alhambra police officer and a passenger were killed when a chase ended in a violent crash near Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive, ABC7 Los Angeles reported. That earlier crash drew fresh scrutiny of pursuit policies and safety on city streets.
Broader pattern across the region
High-speed motorcycle pursuits have surfaced across the Los Angeles area in recent months. A Feb. 6 pursuit saw a rider hit speeds of up to 134 mph on multiple freeways before ditching the bike and being taken into custody, illustrating the risks to officers and the public, according to NBC Los Angeles. Agencies typically conduct follow-up investigations and file official pursuit reports after these incidents.
What officials say now
The CHP had not immediately released detailed booking information or charges in this case, and MyNewsLA's report did not list specific counts for the arrested rider. We will update this story if local agencies or the CHP release further information.
