An American airman deployed in Japan says his 11-year-old Siberian husky and his 2014 Subaru Forester disappeared from his Aurora home while a house sitter was supposed to be watching the place. Doorbell-camera and Nest footage shared by the owner appear to show the sitter driving off with the husky, Maverick, riding in the passenger seat. Neighbors have since been putting up flyers and combing parking lots, while the owner is warning people not to run after the dog if they spot him because of the husky’s mild arthritis and need for a calm approach.
According to the New York Post, airman Andrew Beckham says he posted a doorbell video and a Nest alert to Facebook that he believes show the sitter, whom he identifies as Andy Jansen, leaving the house on April 2 with Maverick and the Subaru. The Post reports Beckham hired Jansen through an online house-sitting service and that Jansen allegedly called 911 to report an attempted break-in roughly an hour before vanishing. Beckham’s posts, the outlet notes, include still images and a timestamped clip he believes captures the moment the sitter drives away with his dog.
What Maverick Looks Like
Per Maverick’s listing on PawBoost, he is an 11-year-old black-and-white Siberian husky weighing about 60 pounds, with one blue eye and one brown eye, a missing front-left toe, and mild arthritis. The listing notes that Maverick is microchipped and registered with HomeAgain and 24PetConnect, and it provides the owner’s contact information along with last-seen details near Union Avenue and Temple Place in Aurora.
Owner's Account And Footage
Beckham told the New York Post that he is currently deployed to Japan with the U.S. Air Force and only learned what happened after the sitter left. The Post reports that Beckham shared a video he had posted to Facebook, along with a Nest alert, that he says captured the sitter driving off with Maverick and the blue Subaru Forester. In those posts, Beckham shared stills from the footage and urged residents to call the numbers listed on the missing-pet alerts instead of chasing the dog if they encounter him.
Car Details And How Neighbors Are Searching
A community report aggregated by PetFBI describes the vehicle as a blue 2014 Subaru Forester with Colorado Parks & Wildlife license plate BMEN70 and distinctive stickers, including one that reads “Mountains Please” and another featuring a Haute-Savoie flag. According to the listing and community posts gathered there, local volunteers have been distributing flyers, watching lost-and-found boards, and checking parking areas in hopes of spotting either the car or Maverick.
Legal Notes
Beckham’s missing-pet posts say he has notified Aurora police, although the department has not issued a public statement and no arrests have been reported so far; that information appears in the PawBoost listing. If authorities confirm that the vehicle and dog were taken without permission, investigators would likely treat the situation as a potential theft case and related offenses while they sort out the full circumstances.
Anyone with information can see the owner’s photos and contact details on the PetFBI and PawBoost listings and is asked to call local police with tips. This story will be updated if authorities or the owner release new information.
