An axe, a string of shattered windows, and a Friday night near a Denver hospital ended with police taking a suspect into custody, and thankfully, no one was hurt, according to Denver police.
Officers responded after reports that someone was breaking windows while carrying an axe, the department said. Authorities reported no injuries and said the situation was contained without further incident. Police have not yet released the person’s name or said whether any charges have been filed.
In a post on X, the Denver Police Department said officers "responded to reports of a person with an axe breaking windows" and "placed the person into custody without further incident." A reply to the post from a resident said they had not been alerted and described the scene as "only blocks from a school and across from a hospital."
Where It Happened And What Neighbors Are Saying
The department’s post did not list an exact address, and officials have not provided more information about the location or about the scope of the property damage beyond confirming broken windows.
Neighbors responding in the post’s replies said they were concerned about the lack of notification and about safety, given the proximity to what they described as a school and a hospital. Their comments hint at the uneasy feeling of learning about a potentially dangerous situation only after it has been resolved.
Axe Calls Have Turned Dangerous Before
Incidents involving axes or other handheld tools in the Denver metro area have, at times, escalated into far more serious confrontations. In December 2024, Adams County deputies shot a man who brandished an axe during a welfare check, as per Hoodline. Episodes like that illustrate how quickly a weaponized act of vandalism can become dangerous for both residents and responding officers.
How To Share Video Or Tips With Police
The City of Denver lists its police non-emergency number as (720) 913-2000 and advises residents to call or text 911 for emergencies on the city’s police page. Anyone with video or other information about Friday’s incident is asked to share tips through those channels.
At this point, the department’s social media post contains the only official details that have been released. Denver police did not immediately provide additional information. This story will be updated if authorities share more.
