A Sunday night burst of gunfire in Central Park Heights ended with a man dead and homicide detectives retracing his final steps, according to Baltimore police.
Officers responded around 8:50 p.m. to reports of shots fired and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in the 4900 block of Park Heights Avenue. He was taken to a hospital, but authorities say he did not survive.
As reported by The Baltimore Sun, a preliminary investigation indicates the victim was actually shot in the 4900 block of Palmer Road and then ran to nearby Park Heights Avenue, where officers ultimately found him.
Police appeal for tips
Northern District detectives have opened a homicide investigation and say they are working to piece together what happened, from where the shots were fired to who pulled the trigger.
The Baltimore Police Department said in a press release that investigators are canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance and cellphone video as part of the probe. They are asking anyone with information to call Northern District detectives at 410-396-2455 or submit an anonymous tip to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
Victim timeline and status
The victim was taken to Sinai Hospital and was initially reported in stable condition, authorities told The Baltimore Sun. Overnight, a police spokesperson confirmed that his condition worsened and he died.
Police have not yet released the man’s identity and say no suspect has been identified. For now, investigators are focused on tracking his movements from Palmer Road to Park Heights Avenue and matching that path with any video or witness accounts.
Park Heights context
The killing takes place in a neighborhood already on edge. Park Heights has seen a string of violent incidents, from an officer being wounded in a March barricade standoff to a mass shooting last summer that left multiple people hurt. Reporting on a Park Heights officer shooting underscores how those episodes have kept pressure on local outreach programs and police resources.
Investigators say the case remains active, and officers plan to release more information as it is verified. Anyone with tips or video from the area is urged to contact Northern District detectives or Metro Crime Stoppers.
